Kate Conroy
Deputy Home Manager
I choose to become a care assistant because working with elderly people has always been a passion of mine, and it deepened ever since I cared for my mum during the final months of her life, whilst it was difficult at the time I understood it wasn’t about how I felt, it was about how my mum felt. My aim was to ensure that she was comfortable, not in pain, comforted and overall someone who was there for her. This is why I feel that working alongside people who struggle for various reasons whether it be age or illness and helping them feel independent again is something I hold close to my heart.
Being a care assistant that can provide physical and emotional support to those in need, being a good listener, good team member, and being a listening ear to not only the residents but their families as well if they need to talk, and being the reassurance, they need when they are scared. Being able to share their happy memories with them and creating more happy experiences for them when they may believe it is no longer possible is what I aim to achieve. That within itself is one of the main reasons why I am passionate about this type of work, being able to give back to people who have helped people throughout their lives is a small token of appreciation from me.
I joined Allandale Care Group in 2019 as a night care assistant, and since then I have developed my skills and knowledge with support from everyone from care staff to management. I have been given the opportunity to take on the role of Care team Leader which I am immensely proud of. I can only thank the Management for this as the support they have given me and continue to have only helped me grow within my role of deputy manager.
